The brobdingnagian linns of Kottayam : Part - I
The second wave lockdown as well as some exams which followed had created a mess of my travelling schedules. But since I've got over all of that, I could finally set the hodophile in me free again.
This time, my main objective was to explore a significant number of clandestine but ginormous waterfalls that flourish during the monsoon season.
My first destination was Kattikkayam falls, which is actually quite popular among local tourists but extremely unsafe. The waterfall is also quite difficult to get to. The journey includes trekking down a pile of rocks and steps through an immensely narrow path with two way footfall.
But the trek is short and winsome. The waterfall is located close to the famous illikkal kallu monolith.
Once we reach the end of the trek, we are treated to a beautiful view of white water rushing into a turquoise pool.
After a few photo sessions, I returned back to my vehicle and continued towards the next leg of the journey.
My second destination was also an equally famous gigantic waterfall known as Marmala.
The whole river Meenachil itself flowing down a huge rockface was the biggest attraction here. The road towards the waterfall ends about 300 metres before it and the rest of the way has to be covered by foot.
The trek wasn't nearly as difficult as the former one,but the waterfall was about twice as huge. In fact, the force was so high that it was nearly impossible to get within 50 metres of the fall without getting wet by the spraying water. The same also prevented me from taking too many photos of the fall.
The blue hue is mostly due to the water being constantly sprayed everywhere.
Marmala was one of the most beautiful waterfalls I have ever laid my eyes on and I reckon that it would remain the same for a very long time.
On the way, I spotted a few extra small waterfalls as well. This one below was captured at Kadavupuzha near Kattikkayam.
After a halt for lunch later at noon, I continued my journey towards my next destination.
Little did I know, what I would witness later that day would completely blow my mind away. Much on that in my next blog. Till then,
Adios...
👌👌
